Laser hair removal · Every skin tone
Laser hair removal for dark skin is safe at Blanca Beauty Bar in London, Ontario. Our diode laser treats every skin type, Fitzpatrick I through VI, and every course starts with a $50, 15-minute consultation planned around your skin and hair.
The honest background
Laser hair removal works by sending light into the skin, where it is absorbed by pigment in the hair follicle. The follicle heats up and its ability to regrow hair is reduced. Simple enough, until you add one variable: skin also contains pigment.
Older technologies, IPL and alexandrite among them, struggle to tell the difference between the pigment in the hair and the pigment in deeper skin. The light meant for the follicle gets absorbed at the surface instead, which is why so many salons simply turn deeper skin tones away. If that has happened to you, it was a limitation of their equipment, not of your skin.
We hear that story often at our downtown London studio. The answer is not to avoid laser. The answer is the right laser.
The technology
The diode laser's wavelength is built to reach the follicle rather than chase surface melanin. That single difference is what makes it safe across the full Fitzpatrick range, from the fairest skin (type I) to the deepest (type VI), with settings tuned to each client.
It is also comfortable. Most clients describe the sensation as a warm pulse, not a snap, and that holds true on every skin tone. We treat clients of every background at Blanca, and we would rather have a careful conversation first than a rushed session.
One more honest note: whatever your skin tone, laser works best on darker hair, because the light is drawn to pigment in the hair itself. Very light or grey hair responds less predictably, and we will tell you that plainly at your consultation.
The process
Every course at Blanca begins the same way: a $50, 15-minute consultation at 392 Clarence Street, downtown London. We look at your skin and your hair together, talk through your goals, and plan the settings your course will use. Nothing is treated on the day. It is fifteen minutes of straight answers.
From there, your course is eight sessions, because hair grows in cycles and the laser can only treat follicles in their active growth phase. The result is long-term reduction, and we will never dress it up as permanent.

No. Most clients describe the diode laser as a warm pulse, not a snap, and that holds across every skin tone. Comfort comes from the technology and from settings chosen for your skin, which is exactly what the consultation is for.
The full clinical course is eight sessions, because hair grows in cycles and the laser can only treat follicles in their active growth phase. The result is long-term reduction, never a claim of permanent removal.
